Rockland man admits to worker’s comp fraud
A Rockland man pleaded guilty Friday for duping an insurance company out of thousands in Workers’ Compensation.
Trent Mitchell, 45, of West Haverstraw, accepted the felony charge in Orange County Court where he was ordered to pay more than $27,000 in restitution to the insurance company Chartis Claims, Inc.
Mitchell began collecting Workers’ Compensation benefits when he was injured in early 2010 after slipping on a pipe while working as a laborer for a Somers lighting company, according to documents from the New York State Office of Workers’ Compensation Fraud.
Mitchell repeatedly claimed that he was not working in any capacity when he was in fact working full-time in 2011 and 2012 as a locking dock supervisor at an Orange County trucking company.
During the time he was working for the trucking company, Mitchell received $27,468 in fraudulent Workers’ Compensation insurance benefits.
Mitchell is due back in Orange County Court June 3 for sentencing.
