A township psychologist was indicted this week on charges that he filed approximately 120 fraudulent claims with an insurance carrier over a four-year period, authorities said.

On Monday, Edward Merski, 62, of Briarwood Drive, was also indicted for allegedly trying to bribe two patients who planned to file a civil lawsuit against him that would have exposed the illegal activities, according to court documents.

Merski, who has an office on Nawatam Way, filed the claims – which totaled more than $15,000 – with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield from Jan. 2009 to May 2013, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Merski was indicted on one count each of second degree health care claims fraud, second degree insurance fraud, second degree bribery of a witness and third degree theft by deception, according to the court documents.
