Crackdown on Worker’s Comp Fraud
Worker’s compensation fraud will not be tolerated in Illinois. That’s the message from the Acting Director of the Illinois Department of Insurance, Anne Melissa Dowling, after announcing the sentencing of an Algonquin woman convicted of defrauding the system.
Tracy Williams, also known as Tracy Wanker, pleaded guilty to felony workers’ compensation fraud last month and was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay nearly $15,000 in restitution. She was also ordered to pay fines, fees and court costs as part of receiving nearly $90,000 in workers’ comp benefits. DOI says Williams had filed more than a dozen workers’ comp claims against several employers since 1987. The Attorney General assisted in prosecuting the case.
