Couple charged with arson, insurance fraud after Davidson County house fire

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. —A couple faces multiple charges including second-degree arson and insurance fraud following a fire at a vacant house last fall.

Neal Stone Gordon Jr., 44, of Mocksville, and Shana Leonard Gordon, 45, of Advance, were arrested Monday in connection with a Nov. 24 fire on Craver Road in Arcadia. No one was injured.

The house sustained heavy damage but was not a total loss, The Dispatch of Lexington reported. Investigators told the newspaper the house was apparently going to be put up for sale.

SBI and state insurance officials joined local officials in the investigation.

Warrants were issued against the couple on Friday. Both also face a charge of felony conspiracy.

Neal Gordon was held under a $150,000 secured bond in the Davidson County Jail, while Shana Gordon was held under a $10,000 secured bond in the Davie County Jail.

Both are scheduled to appear in court Sept. 8.
